I truly believe that individuals can make a difference in society. Since periods of great change such as the present one come so rarely in human history, it is up to each of us to make the best use of our time to help create a happier world.

Art as Action Press Release in progress

Hello All-

Here is the press release for constructive interference. Please proof by Monday April 17. A press release should typically read like a newspaper article: a mix of the logistical information and attention grabbing tidbits- what makes the show special and would make it worth writing a story about. I am looking for feedback on content, grammar, etc.

Thanks so much!
Sarah

P.S. Press releases need to be one page or less!

Local & National Artists/Activists premiere new works in Art as Action’s Constructive Interference

BOULDER, CO (April 15, 2006) On May 26th and 27th, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. Art as Action will debut Constructive Interference at The Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door and are available through The Dairy’s Community Box Office (www.thedairy.org or 303-440-7826). Constructive Interference is a collaborative arts performance that will explore the concepts of responsibility and entitlement locally and globally.

“This is an exciting new show featuring unique alliances between local and national artists,” says Art as Action Executive Director Sarah Leversee. “This year’s cast has reached new levels of portraying a single theme in so many diverse and creative ways.”

Like past Art as Action shows, Constructive Interference will be a collective performance premiering a variety of pieces by several choreographers, writers and composers, exploring the theme of Constructive Interference which is: How does our sense of privilege and accountability in our day-to-day lives and our subsequent actions or inactions effect our community, our country and our world? Pieces include: Sarah Leversee and long time collaborator and sister, Jill Leversee (of Seattle, WA), will present a duet exploring homelessness entitled spare/change. Poet Wayne Gilbert will return for his 5th Art as Action show with Progressive Degeneration. Providing a film element is Chuck Rourke, who will show Some Crescent Souls, a haunting black and white film about pre-Katrina New Orleans. Also, Frequent Flyer's Productions performer J. Darden Longenecker will forge an exceptional alliance with Sarah Leversee in an aerial dance piece accompanied by Red Penguin Records guitarist Jose-Maria L. Ramas.

Founded in Boulder in January 2002, Art as Action is a grass roots movement of artists and activists whose mission is to use the power of collaborative art to create social change. Repeatedly, art has proven to be an extraordinary way to inspire and unite a community. Art as Action uses this to bring global awareness to local artists and audiences.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door and are available through The Dairy’s Community Box Office (www.thedairy.org/303-440-7826). For more information please contact Sarah Leversee at 720-938-6069 or sarah@artasaction.org, or visit www.artasaction.org

i sing sometimes
like my life is at stake
'cause you're only as loud
as the noises you make
i'm learning to laugh as hard
as i can listen
'cause silence
is violence
in women and poor people

if more people were screaming then i could relax
but a good brain ain't diddley
if you don't have the facts

we live in a breakable takeable world
an ever available possible world
and we can make music
like we can make do
genius is in a back beat
backseat to nothing if you're dancing

On the turning away

On the turning away
from the pale and downtrodden
and the words they say
which we won't understand
" don't accept that what's happening
is just a case of others' suffering
or you'll find that you're joining in
the turning away"

It's a sin that somehow
light is changing to shadow
and casting it's shroud
over all we have known
unaware how the ranks have grown
driven on by a heart of stone
we could find that we're all alone
in the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
as the daytime is stirring
where the speechless unite
in a silent accord
using words you will find are strange
and mesmerised as they light the flame
feel the new wind of change
on the wings of the night

No more turning away
from the weak and the weary
no more turning away
from the coldness inside
just a world that we all must share
it's not enough just to stand and stare
is it only a dream that there'll be
no more turning away?
